"When Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the 2 cherubim above the atonement cover on the ark of the covenant law. In this way the Lord spoke to him."
~Numbers 7:89
This is a long chapter listing the gifts brought to the tabernacle. At the end of it all God affirms that He is w/ His people.
“W/ him - i. e. as marginal, "w/ God," not (as some) w/ himself.
He heard the voice of 1 speaking - Rather, he heard the voice speaking, or conversing. The effect was as though Moses was audibly addressed by another person: how this effect was produced we are not told.
Thus was the promise of Exodus 25:20-22 fulfilled; & that as an immediate response on the part of God to the cheerful readiness w/ which the tribes had made their offerings, & supplied everything needful for the Holy place & its service. All being now complete as God had appointed, & the camp purified from defilements, God meets Moses the mediator of the people, not as before on the peak of Sinai far away, but in the midst of them, in the dwelling-place which He henceforth vouchsafed to tenant.”

Deuteronomy 34:10 “Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face,”
But where does that leave us today? When Jesus gave His final instructions to His Apostles before His crucifixion He promised to send the Holy Spirit.
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you.”
John 16:13-14
So in all things you too can know the heart of God. You must only stop long enough to hear Him. It will probably not be audible like for Moses but He is faithful to make you aware of His leading. Open your ears and seek His truth.
